Distance Education and Extended Programs is getting its
IVC studios ready to serve schools across North Carolina
for the 2011-2012 academic year There are over eight hundred
student requests for the sixteen courses! Offerings include
three two semester Honors/AP courses: US History, Calculus,
and Statistics. In addition unique courses such as Mandarin
Chinese, Ethics and Leadership, Forensic Science, and
Genetics and Biotechnology are provided to meet the academic
needs of upper level high school students.
One highlight from the 2010-2011 year was the interactive
enrichment session entitled "Music Production: How songs
are recorded and produced." Broadcasting from one of the
NCSSM studios in Durham, NC, Scott Laird, an NCSSM music
instructor, worked with Mr. Palmer's second grade class
in their videoconference classroom at Northeast Elementary
in Kinston, North Carolina to create and perform the song
entitled "Go Rockets". The students declared that the
