|
The United States Distance Learning Association, the nation's premier distance learning association since 1987 presented its 2006 Distance Learning Awards, the top awards for the distance learning industry. The USDLA Awards are created to acknowledge major accomplishments in distance learning and to highlight those distance learning instructors, programs, and professionals who have accomplished and demonstrated extraordinary achievements through the use of online, videoconferencing, and satellite delivery technologies.
The 2006 USDLA Distance Learning Awards are presented to five major sectors of distance education and training and include the Pre-K - 12, Higher Education, Corporate, Government and Telehealth markets.
The USDLA 21
Century Best Practice Award recognizes outstanding leadership in the field of distance learning for an agency, institution, or company incorporating blended or individual distance learning technologies. This year’s award recognizes the pioneering efforts of the North
Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) in establishing a statewide K-12 distance learning program via two-way videoconferencing. Fulfilling a mission to promote educational opportunities to both students and teachers throughout the state, the NCSSM Distance Learning Department utilizes cutting-edge technologies and methodologies. Since 1992, it has built a reputation for highly successful interactive programming, rich with graphics, multi-media, and other technologies, supplemented with a web-based course management system and video streaming archives of its classes, accessible to all its students. The fact that NCSSM Distance Learning has developed a unique distance learning program with instructional services that are not offered by any other educational organization, and that it effectively addresses the needs of a special group of clients (i.e., rural, underserved districts) is also a factor in its consideration for the award.
The highly sought upper-level high school curriculum and professional development programming, coupled with a catalog of topical sessions aligned with curriculum standards to enrich the classroom with experiential learning activities. NCSSM Distance Learning hosts workshops annually to provide hands-on training with emerging technologies and practical experiences with proven instructional strategies designed to engage distance learners. The NCSSM programming reach typically extends annually to over 3500 students and over 300 teachers across the state.
NCSSM Distance Learning is recognized for its long-term vision for online learning, and its development of highly interactive, multi-media rich curriculum offered statewide and beyond.
The 2006 USDLA Awards were presented at the USDLA Awards Ceremony, on Monday, October 23, 2006 during the Training Solutions Conference and Expo held in Denver, Colorado. |
