Course Information

What do crime scene investigators, agriculture, medicine, endangered species protection, and manufacturing have in common? The use of genetics and biotechnology for problem solving! Every day, you can find a newspaper article or a television show that discusses genetics, biotechnology, and their applications.
In this semester long block course, students will learn the basics of heredity, DNA as the genetic material, and biotechnology. Laboratory exercises will give students the opportunity to explore the genetics bacteria, decipher the "genetic fingerprint" of an individual, and much more! We will also discuss how this new genetic and biotechnological revolution affects our daily lives and our futures.
